As I rethink this one penny is 3.11 grams takes 145 pennies to make a pound so 145 times 346 is 50,170 so you were told right Coin Chaser

That's a lot of pennies, have they been searched?

We bought the contents of a failed business and found these when we were cleaning out the loft area. One plastic water bottle had the most of the pennies. Another had mixed change. The auctioneer did not know these coins were in the content of the bldg.

I purchased a rolling machine in Wal-mart for around 30 bucks and you can get penny rolls from Dollar Store pretty cheap. Will take some time with that many pennies but may be your only options.

So, this entire bottle is copper cents?
You said you have an outlet once they're rolled. I assume you don't mean a bank because you said you want to sell them by the roll.
If you're looking to sell them as copper, maybe you could just sell them by the pound. I see people on craigslist buying and selling copper cents by the lb.

If you are going to sell as copper then definitely sell by the pound...I've seen the larger amounts bring better prices on ebay ($100 FV or more)

Quote: A shotgun roll is 50 pennies in a coin tube or roll
I thought a shotgun roll was a roll of 25 cents. About the size of a shotgun shell Can anybody claify this?

A shotgun roll is half a roll of anything. Correct upstate.

I thought the term shotgun roll was derived from the way the end of the roll was curled in, similar to a shotgun shell crimp.

That was how I always understood it, rolls that were crimped like a shotgun shell.

Quote: what is a shotgun roll?
It is a coin roll that has rolled and crimped ends on the wrapper as opposed to folded ends. Shotgun rolls allow for the viewing of end roll coins while you cannot see anything through a folded wrapper.

He never said in what size rolls you know. I wonder if he is trying to find a way to make one big roll? Then as someone mentioned he would need his garage. Imagine one roll of pennies that weighs 346 pounds. I don't see why you just don't take them to a bank in bags and let them worry about what to do with them. Face value is all you'll get though. Still a lot better than playing around with rolling them. Quote: I would say the garage, you have more room out there.
Yes that would be needed if all one roll.

You do realize your a minority when you call pennies a cent don't you? Used to be a lot of coin people that would start that old stuff about our pennies are really cents.

Hi and a Merry HO HO HO, The ordeal with the pennies We had to roll is over. I was able to persuade my Granddaughters to put them in rolls for us. We were able to get a plastic penny counter and it became easier. The process of separating pre-1982 for copper content became easier and the girls were able to identify the different coins quickly. I am happy to say that we have 2 new young collectors since they started rolling the pennies. The results were 968 rolls of pennies. 697 rolls pre 1982. 271 rolls- 1982-89. The girls kept 60 rolls to start their collections. I never realized the demand for Wheaties. We sold the pre-1982 rolls for more than copper value but if we would have separated the Wheaties from the Lincolns we could have doubled our reward. The copper/zinc sold for 1.57/roll. We are winners because we have added two young girls to our number.
