 Number 4 is the best. Most have a weird white spot on the top of the photo (some more than others). |

Thank you for the comments, it at least gives me a place to start. I didn't mess with any settings or anything and that is why that last picture is off color. I was just wondering what everyone thought would be a good place to start with and then go from there. This is just a point and shoot camera so not allot of fancy things to mess with like extra lenses or anything, there is some settings I can use to try and make the picture better if needed

All are dark at the bottom also. Was your light shining from the north?

1-5 look slightly red to me. 6 looks like the camera is trying to adjust for daylight/fluorescent with tungsten lighting. Is that toning on the bottom of the coin, a shadow from the camera, or uneven lighting? 1-4 have an over exposed spot at the top. It makes me think if you back off the lamp you will have less "fall off" from your light source.

yes its all with one light to the "north" of the coin. I was just trying to find a place to start and then go from there Quote:

allright this is another coin. This one is the VAM-85 and has DMPL fields. I used the setting everyone seemed to think looked best and added a light about 90 degrees from each other so one north and the other around south east. What do you think about this one   Remember this is just a point and shoot camera so there is no way I can compete with all of you DSLR people but am just trying to see if this other camera will do better than the one I have been using forever |

Bryan, Does this coin have some toning as well? It seems this camera is adding a rosy hue to the photos. Kind of like looking at tv's on QVC where they all seem to have a blue tint to them. Is there a manual setting for different light sources? You could also try a pic with the flash just to compare colors only. I know you will get a hot spot, but you should see some portion of the coin and be able to see what it's coming through as. Maybe try it on the first coin instead of the 85 so you don't get blinded....  |

The 1878 looks very nice. Can see the doubled eyelid clearly and the mirrored field clearly reflects the camera. Can't imagine a better shot without getting into fancy lighting.
I still question your white balance. This coin too looks slightly red/magenta to me.

In the photo your reflection is very noticeable. When I was taking photo's of one of my coins with PL surfaces I would set a timer on the camera and put a piece of white paper behind it (the camera) to stop the reflection.
Just a tip.

here is another set of the same coin above. this one I changed the angle of the camera to stop the reflection issues and diffused the light   If anyone see's a red tint please let me know. I don't actually have a setting to manually set the WB just different light sources to select from and I am not sure how to fix it if its still a problem |

In the first set of pics I was trying to decide which picture that fingerprint showed up best... I'm torn between #1 and #3.  |
