And I'm just the opposite. Once any set if filled, I start upgrading all the coins. The ones replaced go into a 2x2. Then when enough 2x2's have been accumulated to make a set, I start set #2 of that coin. Then as I continue to upgrade #1, move the coins to #2 and then to another 2x2. This goes on and on and on which is why I now have way over 100 Albums and still 9 boxes of 2x2 duplicates waiting for Albums. There is no end for my collecting unless there comes an end to me.

I will never be 100% satisfied, but that's only because I continue to appreciate different coins. Also, since the types of toning are virtually unlimited, there are so many different possibilities... (my wife is presently rolling her eyes)

Great Topic. Me personally, I was turned onto collecting by my step father. He started me off with Lincolns when I was about 10. Once I hit 12 I lost interest. Except when I found a wheatie, then I would break out the Whitman's and fill a hole or upgrade. I love to collect all U.S. coinage, and there is alot to collect. I tend to bounce around & may work on my Morgan's, then Lincolns, then Kennedy's or my 7070 etc... So, I guess there is no end for me. I will continue to collect as long as I can see the dates and mm's.

My collection of French Francs can never be completed. There are simply too many rarities you may never find - even if you had unlimited budget. And even if it were complete, you can always improve.

there is no end as long as the mint still makes the coins out of metal. but when or if they go to plastic I'm DONE with it

I started to make a quick buck. After I sold my first coin I ever bought I got hooked. I still buy and resell coins but I have been adding to my collection ever step of the way. This is more for my retirement plan for my family and I. Though everyday I keep getting more and more attached to my rare coins.

being a collector never ends, thats the fun of it, is there an end? if there is, then it'll be past tense, from collector to collected?

"Is there a coin or set, that, once owned by you would stop your collecting of new coins and just sit back and appreciate your collection?" Seems to me the word satisfaction makes for a valid comparison here to sex. Each experience brings its own specific satisfaction but that does not relieve the desire for more/better. Tho I suppose there comes a time when we just sit back and enjoy the grandchildren. It's all good

If I am ever satisfied to the point where I stop collecting, you will have no coins left because you sold them to me.

At a coin show today I was talking to one of the larger dealers there about how he got started. He said he too was a coin collector once and basically still is but after a massive amount of coins started to accumulate, he figured why not make money from this hobby. He too had multiple sets of everything, rolls of stuff, boxes of 2x2's, miscellaneous coins all over the place. He tried one small coin show and actually almost sold out. So he continued taking his own coins to the next one and the next one, etc. Eventually people started selling him coins and it just kept on going this way. So I asked just what are you ever going to do with all this inventory in the future, if that ever comes up. He just stared at me for minute and said I never thought of that.
