Same designer for this coin, Tommy Sasseen. So the initials stand for something (or someone) else.

Did Tommy Sassen not do the other side? There is a TS on at the bottom of the portrait. So the designer of the other side is probably JVZ

And JVT for earlier coins? The catalog just states that T.Sasseen is "the designer of the coin". He designed quite a few denominations, and my understanding was that he did both sides.

But I still think on the 1st coin it's JVT but on the 11977 and 1983 it's JVZ

Jan van Zyl is a South African sculptor. Among his many works are the dinosaur sculptures at Dinosaur Park (1977) in Lydenburg, South Africa.
Designs: South Africa R/ 2 c. 1968-1982 KM-66, 75, 83, 92, 99, 110. R/ 1 R., 2 R. KM-63, 64; R/ 1 R. 1967 KM-72.

This is DIRKSA. Most were right. Tommy Sasseen did the engraving of the dies for most years BUT only the OBVERSE, for most years. The REVERSE design was made by Jan van Zyl. Perhaps what looks like a "T" on the first coin is an aberration caused by damage. There are no known varieties on the Reverse of this 2 cent coin. Sorry I'm late but I was away and out of Internet for almost a week. Great to be part of this forum.

DIRKSA again. I've looked very carefully again and again. This might just be "J.v.T." Then this will be an unknown variety.
