Is it along the same style as this or completely different?  Is it silver looking or bronze, does the lettering appear Greek or Latinized or something else? |

It is silver and it isn't as old looking as that. The lettering is just normal english letters. The picture of the horse drawn carriage is similar to the one I have but smaller.

I'm sure when you get round to scanning a picture someone will be able to ID it - unfortunately at the minute it could be one of many things spanning a number of years.

Hello! I have been looking online for the same exact coin, I believe, and my search engine led me to this forum. Anyways, I think I may have the same coin design as yours. Mine is a white gold pendant. On one side, it has the Libra symbol (similar to the side with the Virgo symbol) with the name "Giampaoli" below it. On the other side, it has a picture of a man driving a four horse chariot in the clouds (most likely Apollo or Helios) and the chariot is led by a winged female with a laurel, Nike, the Greek personification of victory. Giampaoli refers to Pietro Giampaoli, an Italian engraver and medalist, but that's all I found out about the name and origin. I am still stumped on who is driving the chariot. I'd say its most likely Apollo, but he isn't usually depicted bald, and Helios usually has rays coming from his head, and I do not know of any other Greek deities that ride chariots. Hopefully whatever I have helps in some way. I'm not a coin specialist, I'm just an art history major with a great strength in Greek mythology hahah   Edited by pythia

Under the chariot appears to be 3 hallmarks mintmarks or similar ID. If you can decipher them with a loop, that should tell you what and when.

This "coin" and, presumably, the one the OP has, are jewellery pieces, presumably sold with an astrological theme. The little hallmarks in the exergue below the chariot might help identify the maker, composition and/or date.

i ve got the same coin/ medallion-but on one side there are 2 dolphins, not the libra. is it valuable?

"Two dolphins" is presumably for Pisces. Any value it might have would be as jewellery, since there's not much collector interest in such pieces.

Hello, my name is Rafael, I'm from Rio, Brasil. I' ve found this forum by searching for the exactly medal with the Libra symbol in one side. Mine is yellow gold and I always wanted to get more "intel" about it. Really nice to find some!! As I can see, we are oceans apart!

I´m from São Paulo Brazil and I have the same medal, in yellow 18k gold. But the symbol in the other side is two twins, babies. So I suppose this is a collection of Pietro Giampaoli, the greatest "incisore" e medallist of Italia in the XX century. He made almost all the italian coin designs in the xx century. Died in 1998. This particular collection of medals is about astrological phases. That´s why we see Capricorn, Libra and Gemini symbls I suppose.
