I found a site where the builder says there are about 2500 US and Canadian quarters in that picture. They did this on a turntable with a metal cylinder in the middle to keep the coins aligned.

Very cool looking. I'm assuming it's done by laying down a base circle, then doing the same on top except off-setting the quarters just a bit. Then you just keep going.

Should have posted that site. I too have seen this several times somewhere.

I have a feeling if I attempted something like this, the little one would come over and knock the whole thing down just as I was on the last quarter.
Really cool none the less.

I have a box of about 500-600 $1 coins that I have collected over the past few years. They are generally uncirculated or at least EF with some level of luster, and were collected from slot machines. I use them to for an occassional trade. I needed to organise them a few weeks ago to create a set of coins from 1984 - 2009 for a friend in Turkey. I was stacking them neatly when my 4 year old grand daughter wanted to help. She had little idea on how to use the loupe for the date, but she was very keen. We spent some hour(s) stacking them. We were interrupted by a knock on the door. I spent the next 15 minutes or so talking with a TV repair man. During that time my grand daughter was trying to gain my attention. I should have listened. It was something about the coins. "Yes dear, whatever" It was a few minutes later that I came to understand. She loved what she was doing, and could she do it again! She had put them all back into the box! My friend in Turkey will have to wait until I get another opportunity for me to sort them again. Had to laugh though. She was so cute.
