I found a 1911 from a CWR that was in about the same condition as that. It turned out to be a proof!

It's a million in 1 chance, but you should check it for proof diagnostics anyway.

I'm puzzled by Kefiroth describing his 1911 LWC as a "proof" coin. I could be mistaken, but to my knowledge the first proof coins in that series were not struck until 1936. Likewise, the first "mint" sets weren't made until 1947. If I'm wrong, would someone please enlighten me?

coinseeker, he had it slabbed, but yes there were "matte proof" coins minted in those early years of Lincolns

Nice find. I found one in my dads change about 15 years ago, then have found a pair of them in recent months searching cents.

Quite a nice find I look forward to finding my first. ^_^ Oldest wheatie I've found was in the 30's. Couldn't tell you what year.
