yes it does appear odd to celebrate taxes, & that's a lot to think about.

Spock, how you doing, long time no see? Why don't you get your posts count up--you don't have enough posts! You could be fired for that around here!

PS: J/K. Just nice to see you again, bud.

It sure is popular to express a dislike about the oh-so-evil concept of taxation and oh-so-terrible politicians. And yet nobody has come up with an alternative that actually works better. What I find a little strange though is when such coins are not issued at face value, hehe.

Hmm, the US had taxes, even an income tax, well before 1912. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixtee..._pre-Pollock But I don't think they will issue a coin celebrating the 150th anniversary this year. ;)

Same here. :) What people think about such "taxation" coins will also depend on how taxes, and the government in general, are perceived. Hardly anybody loves paying taxes, but in countries where people have the impression that by and large their taxes are used responsably and sensibly, a coin commemorating taxation will get fewer scathing reactions than in places where (actual or perceived) corruption and "inadequate" use of taxes are common.
