It sure is popular to express a dislike about the oh-so-evil concept of taxation and oh-so-terrible politicians. And yet nobody has come up with an alternative that actually works better. What I find a little strange though is when such coins are not issued at face value, hehe.

i am sure things would work just as fine without taxes look at usa 1912 and before but you are right 30 times face value is just amazing

i know wiki says that but when I lived there people insisted that there was no income tax on individuals before 1912 who knows I wasnt there then :)

Same here. :) What people think about such "taxation" coins will also depend on how taxes, and the government in general, are perceived. Hardly anybody loves paying taxes, but in countries where people have the impression that by and large their taxes are used responsably and sensibly, a coin commemorating taxation will get fewer scathing reactions than in places where (actual or perceived) corruption and "inadequate" use of taxes are common.
