I keep them when I come across them just because I like the reverse as well, but just like the others said, no numismatic value unless you have the silver S- minted issues...

AND it's a sad one when it comes to coins. Way, way back myself and a friend competed in trying to see who could accumulate the most of those Bicentennial Quarters. After about 30 years he had thousands of them. He beat me out but I too had a real lot of them. We both took some to a coin show to try to sell them. All dealers said NO. One said $0.24/each sort of like saying NO I guess. All ended up in the bank for face value. Sure would have preferred to save something worth saving back then. Every time I see one in change, I get rid of it as fast as possible. If you collect those THINGS, you probably will get many of mine. GOOD LUCK WITH THOSE. Edited by just carl

Dealers will offer you .23 to .24 Cents apiece for them if in BU condition......  The regular ol' circulated ones ......well......they're just spendin' money.....and that's it ! Edited by eaglefoot

I was putting a role together but abandoned since it seems like there isn't value, and I have other things to hoard!

Kind of funny that they have no extra value but so many people hoard these coins.

Same reason why I don't expect the 2005 Buffalo nickels to ever have any value. Ten percent of the ENTIRE mintage was sold directly to collectors and disaapeared into hoards in BU condition. Then there are all the BU and AU coins that collectors and the general public have hoarded because they were different or because they liked the buffalo. It would not surprise me if almost 25% of the entire mintage is sitting in hoards out there in AU or BU condition. |

And on top of that, I don't believe the '05 Buffalo nickel OR the '76 Bicentennial Qtr. were ANYWHERE CLOSE TO A LOW MINTAGE EITHER ! So, there wasn't ever a "short" supply of either of them to go around..... None of these factors SHOULD warrant a premium IMO. But I must say.....that a good percentage of the "collectors", will have some of these things, not because of some fantastical potential future value, but just simply because "they like them" for their collections. I think you can look for DDOs or DDRs on them.
I was having a conversation yesterday about these very coins.
Alot of people saved these thinking they would have some value years down the road.
I would have to guess that there are millions upon millions of BU examples.
I would throw them in the coin machine. Then again I have about 5 BU rolls in my drawer.

Same thing I thought back in the 70's. What I didn't realize is the so called future where they would be worth something more than face value is in the year 2458 approximately. And even then, only about $0.26 each. |

That reminds me of the SBA Dollars my grandfather used to take us to the bank to get, they were new and I am only guessing he thought they would be a hot item when we got older, I don't think he expected us to live to be 200 though before they may actually be worth more than face value and then only because people don't know what a coin is and buy it for a curiosity |
