-Ikandiggit- It might not the nicest thought but!

These cents are different. They sat in a garage, uncovered, for probably 20 years and were on the top layer of a pail of cents.

That being said maybe ether a mouse or cat that urinated on them in the bucket that would bedazzle there colour!

LOL!

In a shop you have a choice of corrosive gasses from exhaust and fumes from various finishing products. Some are known for causing rainbow toning.

Doesn't matter, these are pretty fine to look at and have a story to them... the very best kind of kind of coin.

Thanks for sharing.

In the house wood,(being a sawmill guy) contains acid. Maybe in the right conditions heat, cold, light, oxidization and acid gasses cause a rapid reaction with the copper and silver. Just my thoughts.

The next question is why only a few coins in the roll and not all of them?

It was not uncommon to re - tone cleaned coins on a bedding of oak shavings inside a glass sealer left in the sun, so you are absolutely correct.

These weren't in rolls. They were in several uncovered buckets full of pennies. I have another 20 or so toned ones but they don't have toning as nice as these.

Nice cat -IKD- looks kinda guilty to me, maybe just a little tinkle! There's some strong acids in urine!
---That might explain why it was just some on the surface, but I'll say, could be allot of things so not to raise some fur. I just couldn't be right.

ph of cat urine is 6.0-6.5 in ahealthy animal. That is strong enough to cause pitting in copper if left unteated and prevent the formation of the nice patina we see on these coins.

Given a choice that this toning was caused by a gas or a liquid, I'd tend to think gas. Of course I wasn't there, so they might have painted by elves for all I can prove.

Of coarse who would have thought this a contest.

You seem to think it's a "contest" rather than a discussion when someone says anything marginally different from you CC. I don't mind you or anyone else having an alternate opinion on anything. If you have something you feel you need to say, I suggest you send me an email as opposed to making random "contest" comments here in various threads.

-Ugly- Why would you chose to publicly ask me to Email you if I had any question to pose you, I have none!
---You could have simply Emailed that to me, if with good intent!
---I resent your implication toward my posts and others as a "contest"! I do my best towards all.("No contest")
---Your post kinda putts me on the spot to defend my integrity that's not something I signed up for on this forum, to have to do and in a sense challenges me to not question you, to quiet me. I see the psychology in your post.
---I am not randomly posting "contest" comments, I simply posted a thought and impression I got from your last reply! My opinion!
---This is a forum were opinions are discussed about topics.
---A "contest"! well there is "No contest", you do have more knowledge about coins in general than myself admittedly (my guess is you like to hear that) but I do have some myself, maybe not all right but have an opinion, I try to have some fun at the same time and will learn if wrong but don't expect me to be a yes man to your every word and to concede always.
---You once challenged me to dis-prove one of your working theories. (Sounds like a contest!)I would think a leader if that would want to prove themselves wright for respect and credibility.
---History can prove that it is you that tends to have the last word on most everything I say and is always opposing (I don't care)so it appears that it is you, that may have a problem, maybe it's you that needs to win a "contest". So again I say "No contest" for me, you win!
---I was done with this thread, we had our fun with Cat banter.
---Puzzling but maybe not! you advertise a "contest" all of the time with your every posted note, so appears you like a "contest" and is fine!
---Yet you make an unsubstantiated / outrages implication and point that finger at me and my interaction with others!
---Speak for yourself.

To me it sounds like things are getting pretty ugly. No pun intended.
