Ebay Listing Removed After Paying And Receiving Slabbed Coin

Thanks for the replies, I sent a message to the seller and he said after spending 45 min on the phone with ebay he still doesn't understand why it was removed either.

I found one of the reasons they won't tell you what went on is if shill bidding was reported on an auction, they usually yank/cancel and suspend the user.

What is "shill bidding"?

I'm pretty sure there wasn't any shill bidding on this auction. There were less bids than other similar auctions and I got a pretty good deal. I remember thinking that Monday morning must be a good time to find deals because of the lack of other bidders. My max bid was not hit and no one came in at the last minute. I was actually worried the seller wouldn't send the coin and he would just refund my money it was such a good deal.

I suspect it had something to do with the wording of the title or description using the "First Strike" designation.

I listed a graded coin a segs I belive. I used the segs name in the title and they cancelled it on me. Reason segs isn't a certified ebay TPG. I relisted it with out the segs in the title and sold it. Same thing with graded sports cards only ebay certified TPG are allowed to be used in title. ebay support is basically worthless. I talked to a person who told my package was delivered to the wrong address. He was saying the 4 digit sorting number which is on the end of your zipcode was the reason. The post office told me that wasn't the case.

More than likely it was shill bidding. There is nothing wrong with the coin obviously. The fact that you got a deal leads me to believe it's all the more likely it was a shill.

A couple years ago I sold a silver lot of coins on ebay. It was a pretty decent little collection. My step daughters Grandmother bid on them using her ebay ID, which she had since 1997 with over 200 feedback, but did so from my home computer, and even though she won the auction ebay cancelled the auction and suspended me while I had 2 other silver lots running. I called them and they said that in the future if I want to have a friend or family bid they must do so either with a buy it now auction or from another computer at a different address. I was suspended 14 days and had to take a quiz on shill bidding before I was reinstated.

There is a guy who used to work for me who listed fishing gear on his user ID from my house during his down time. His wife was the daughter of the owner of our local bait shop and they found they could get far more for the bait online than they were charging at their brick and mortar store. The ebay business took off VERY quickly and they were doing thousands a month in sales. They actually set up a terminal at the bait shop so that customers could bid on clearance items and it was a huge success, until they began listing the items from the same location. ebay didn't even give the guy a warning. They shut down a power seller account that was doing 4k per month in sales with projected sales of 8-12k per month within 3 months. I was beyond shocked. He tried everything on the phone with them and they never did reopen the account. They ended up opening up a new account under the bait store name and hired an IT guy to come and set up different IPs.

Ridiculous speculation. If you're going to speculate shill bidding is the absolute least likely scenario since it's almost impossible to prove even by ebay.

The most likely scenario is something in the description, like posting a value, a link to a price guide, saying anything remotely suggesting that Paypal isn't preferred, using a stock photo, not showing photos of both sides of the slab ..... the list of infractions that would get the listing removed goes on and on....

A few years ago, a company that sold computer stuff put some of their own decommisioned machines up. They had seven accounts selling stuff independently.

One seller was looking for a laptoy, and since he knew the history of the company machines, figured he'd have an edge on a creampuff.

He logged out of his company account, and bid using his personal account.

ebay shut down all seven accounts, and it took a week and firing him before they let them back selling.
