Welcome to CCF and NICE find.

The condition of that note is going to hold the value back. BUT I would say at least $700 and up. The book I am using does not have / list $100 mismatch sn's.

FWIW, I have not seen any mismatched $100's...ergo take your time and research it. Your SN is in the only known / published range for the mismatched SN 1996 $100's.

IF you do not need the cash hold on to it and save it in a Mylar protective sleeve.

Wow, good eye! Definately has a premium. With all of the bills tellers have to process in an average day, how on earth did you happen to spot that? Obvious errors like fold errors or offset transfers I understand but a mismatched SN? I wish I was that observant

I wonder how many people had that note in their hands and never noticed the serials? Bet it was a lot!

great find. Not sure of the value but it should have a nice premium to it. Keep us posted if you do try to sell it.

I definately have no plans of selling it. I'm actually a VP at the credit union and one of my tellers had brought it to me thinking it was counterfeit. Not sure how she noticed it. Ceylon62, where do you look to see what serial numbers are in a known/published range of mismatched serial numbers?

There is also a currency error book by Fred Bart. Not sure if Fred lists them in his book.

G'day, I've been watching my notes for the last few years, after an incident in Australia.
A collector was always on the look out for a radar. One day, he received a $10 (ten) in change, and noticed that it was not a radar, but one digit differed between the two places where the number is printed.
The note had seen plenty of circulation ...
but, at auction, it fetched $8,000.00. That's quite a premium, and the thought of it motivates me to this day.
So, I'd be echoing the advice of others: don't rush into selling this one !
