The coin is probably still worth something, just don't use the ms-66 price on your price guide as a basis for your bid.

I think it's an effort to confuse the uninformed, to trick your mind with PNCG and confuse it with NGC & PCGS. Dirty pool!

$465 for an NGC AU55 Half Eagle is about an average price for what they are going for on ebay at the current gold spot price. What year and mint mark is the coin?

1911, I dont think I saw a mint mark on there

*edit*
talking tot the owner through email, and he told me that he would lower the price to 450 if I paid with money order or check, but I think ill stick with paypal just in case anything goes wrng.

im pretty sure its legit, but I sill prefer all of the gurantees with paypal

I found this entry on Wikipedia concerning PNCG-graded coins here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Coolncalm23

The article claims that PNCG is a new private coin grading service out of central Pennsylvania.

I also recently made a staff contact at PNG here:
http://www.pngdealers.com/

I have a return email from PNG from just Tuesday that says that PNG has never even heard of PNCG, even though they have substantially the same name. PNG has their grading done by NGC.

I recently won the bid on an 1893 (Philadelphia) Morgan on ebay recently for $270. Clearly in the ebay ad the photo shows as a PNCG MS-66 grade, even though the grading company name is not mentioned in the ad. The coin arrived here yesterday and it is obviously not an MS-66. In my professional opinion, at most it is a Choice MS-63 or 64, as there are hardly any breast feathers left. It may have been cleaned too.

I am a mid-size collector who lives here in metro-Denver and have used ANACS for grading recently, so I will send the coin to them for cross-grading, and I will let everyone here on the forum know the result. Either that or perhaps the Silver Dollar Coin Store on ebay would prefer to buy it back at a premium price? An 1983 (P) Morgan graded in MS-64 condition is worth $2200 on US Coin Values Advisor.com, and $7000 for a graded MS-65, so I would be willing to discuss a buyback starting in that range, so that I am not forced it to send it to ANACS for re-grading and report the results, both on here as well as on ebay too!

If you are not sure, why make your ebay customer do all the legwork to prove authenticity?

I already have an 1878 (P) 8-TF in my collection, which is only graded MS-63 choice and in similar condition as this one available on ebay today, graded MS-66 by PNCG.

By the blow-up photos further down in the ad, this coin looks more like a 7 over 8 TF anyway. Any opinions on this?

There are a few sellers on ebay who capitalize on the familiarity of the better known grading companies. They change a letter or two. I have seen their items and they are usually far overgraded for the real state of the coin. CAVEAT EMPTOR.

As to the Wikipedia comments, notice that the Wiki was just posted last month. ANYONE can write for Wikipedia. Much of their info is commercially motivated (like AOL news) and written by semi-knowledgeable bloggers. Try it- you can write a page or change an existing one.

I have a couple of 2011 MS-70 Silver Eagle's from I bet the same dealer you are looking at there, as I recognize those 2.5 gold eagles, and they get ridiculously high for a "pretty liberal" coin grading company, or as their dealer described it to me. I bought them at separate times, first time 53 total, and 2nd time I put in low bid not figuring I would get it, but it was during the recent dip to 33 bucks, so I got it for 51 total while I was at work, and used my ebay bucks to pay for it, and was happy to have both, even being identical....

I actually started two threads on this subject as well....

I like this company, just consider like one wise poster said, a grade or two less then what they claim, but I like the shell they use, and both coins are both my nicest by far, and I have another five from one of the more trusted companies. Of course I did buy brand new 2011 coins, so no surprise they are real nice, no doubt at least ms-69, but is not just about every Eagle from a brand new roll if graded? So if looking at older coin, may consider it 3 or 4 less than claimed....
