Biokemist6 I have an Indiana Statehood die and accompanying Statehood Quarter and it only mentions the fact the quarter was supposed to have been struck by that die but there is NO way the Mint can prove that or I can deny the claim. Also with the DIE damaged beyond recognition there will never be a way to decide either way. One thing is for sure it is in no way claiming to be a first strike and the die I own only made 40 some thousand quarters before breaking. The blunt end of this subject in my opinion is the mere fact there can only be ONE first strike on any given set of dies. First implies ONE! Perhaps it would be best if they used other terms that were NOT misleading. How about a CENTURY strike where the first 100 could be included? Or, even better, have someone with a grading company representitive standing on hand pull the coins off one at a time and call them "SERIAL NUMBERED" Strikes? Then you would know exactly when, where and the number in which your coin came off the press? May seem a little difficult but France has done it, with PCGS present at the striking, and this eliminates all the BULL and the FRAUD! I know exactly which coins I now own. The way it is used today First Strike and First Strikes is nothing more than hype and fraud. It is time for a change! Of course this brings up another question. How cool would it be to be a LAST STRIKE collector. Just think the last coin ever made of a specific series. The last Statehood Quarter collection? That would be even greater than the worst coin collection many folks are doing at this time!

seems the same type of lawsuit has been filed against PCGS as well so maybe soon the whole First Strike nonsense will be behind us collectors for good

The first strike coin Issue has been behind very many collectors from the very start of it.

I think the number of mature collectors who were taken in by these coins ,,If only with a view to profit,, would surprise all of us .
No doubt that the newer collectors would have been the target group when the whole scheme was cooked up,, but things have a way of affecting even the seasoned collectors once started.

I think it is unfortunate for collectors either new or seasoned to be caught up in the "First Strike" hype. It is not just the grading companies that hyped this, no matter what magazine I read I see ads for overpriced "First Strike" coins and bullion. We have all seen HSN or Coin Vault push the so called benefits of having a "First Strike" coin. In the end it is the collector and the hobby that will suffer from others greed.

Spider I agree 100% and the thing that bothers me that if these lawsuits puts a stop to these First Strike designations that some people will market their First Strike slabs in a way to make unsuspecting collectors think that they are going to be a real money maker in the years to come because they are not going to be made anymore

Anyone who does not return the slabs for the Guarantee will be taking a very big chance ,, But there are those who will either try buying as many as possible or selling them or both in hopes of creating a niche market . If this does not reveal the true nature of the TPG's I seriously doubt anything will. Rick

Well SuperDave, Sir Knight, since you are now of royalty, I pass on my congratulations, and let me teach you a word that I learned in England and is quite proper and a good substitue for the word you are thinking of, and that is: Balderdash. Take care Sir Knight, Berry (Glad they recognize a current New Jersey guy as royalty)

In one part I agree with NGC that PCGS should not be able to trademark the term "First Strike" that be like someone trying to trademark MS or whatever. However I don't like the term First Strike and I wont pay more money for a first strike coin, To me a first strike is say the first 50 coins on each dye, not like NGC says and is the first month or whatever that they are producing that coin.
