If I recall correctly, WE THE PEOPLE elected Al Gore by popular vote in 2000, but the Supreme Court appointed Bozo the Clown as our President, the snotty nosed rich kid whose daddy got him out of Viet Nam but who now wants to be a "war hero" by sending other young men and women to die for his glorification. I hope I'm around to mutilate his coin, as the Romans did the coins of Caligula.

Can we please keep this to something REMOTELY coin-related? Or at least preface your post/thread with a big OT (off topic)?

Yesterday local radio talk show discussed these coins. their concern was how dare the Mint take in gog we trust off of the face of the coin and put it on the edge. They felt it was a conspiracy to remove in God we trust from the American monetary system. They went on to claim that the first time in God we Trust was placed on American currency was in the 1950s then someone called in and corrected them and let them know that it first appeared on the 1864 2cent piece. Then the discussion went from this would most likely be a coin for collectors not for circ and it will have the same results as the SAC & SBA dollar coins Your thoughts?

Just to correct a misunderstanding, it is a fact that "In God We Trust" first appeared on our currency (paper money) in the 1950's during the Truman administration after WWII. It is also a fact "In God We Trust" first appeared on our coins in 1864 on the Two Cent Piece and subsequently all other coin denominations, just after the Civil War. I find it not to be coincidental that in both instances our nation was recovering from major war traumas and felt closer to God at those times...just another fascinating historical viewpoint.

Has the USA ever had a gay President? Was wondering how they would do his partner on the gold coin. What happens if a President was single, widowed or divorced when he was in office or have ALL your Presidents been straight and married when in Office?

Well, Briss, if there have been any gay presidents, they never admitted to it. Our only "bachelor" President (who admitted to nothing) was James Buchanan (1857-1861). I think a niece or cousin or some such relative acted as his hostess at the White House in lieu of a First Lady. I doubt they'll put her on a coin. But then, they can make up for it with Wilson's two wives. The first (Ellen Axson) died after he became President, and within a year or two he married a woman named Edith Galt.

Well, if we have had a gay President, it is a secret. Several of them have not been married while in office however. Each First Ladies gold coin will be issued at the same time as the corresponding President. The tentative plan right now is to issue "alternative designs" when a President without a wife comes around, what ever that means

OFF TOPIC (so no one gets bent out of shape) -
I believe there were romantic letter between Martin Van Buren and a male friend, although historians explain it away as the flowery writing style of the time when people actualy were literate enough to write something other than "sup? r u ok? lol."

Thanks for that info. What about the one mentioned that had two wives during his term in office?

Wilson's second wife may have been pretty important historically. It's widely believed she made some important decisions for him during the time he was recuperating from a stroke.
Regarding what the Mint will do about the gold coin, and two Mrs. Wilsons, I don't know.

If he was married to both during his term they will both get a coin.

I have an idea that will go well with the presidental dollars and the first spouses. The presidents pets collections. It can include all the dogs, horses, cats, and even fish on platinum coins.

LOL. Did George Washington have a dog? This could be educational.
Nixon made "Checkers" famous in his election speech. While LBJ held His dog up by it's ears...He copped a lot for that misdeed.
