Tykimeister, the corners are missing. I know, it's a bummer.
Russell, Thanks again for all of the info. At this time, these notes belong to myself and my three other relatives(grandchildren). I am trying to find values to either buy them out at a fair deal, or sell and split the money four ways of course. I will post links to anything I may sell in the future if I am forced to.
Thanks again for all of the great info.

From the research that I've done, I don't think ebay is your best option. You've got mail.

Susanlynn, Just curious as to why you don't think that ebay is a good alternative. It seems to me that getting bids from many different potential buyers (collectors and dealers) will yield a higher price than just selling outright to one. As a dealer it's the selling venue that I use, but I'm always open to any suggestions or ideas that will produce better results. What do you think is the better alternative and why? Thanks. -Russell Kaye, Sellitstore

Russell, What I think Susan meant was for a regular Joe that just has a normal ebay account and not a "business/dealer". I honestly think she is right in that I can probably do better putting it on a dedicated auction site like Heritage where it will be looked at for it's real worth. I have a feeling if I even use the numbers that you gave me and set the reserve somewhere close to that, they won't sell. Then the ebay fees really start to stack up. But who knows. I am selling some silver right now on ebay, and if there is a new collector out there that needs to fill some holes and is interested in the melt value, it's a win win for me.....

Heritage would be a good option, too. My point was that you will be best off with competitive bidding vs. selling to one individual. I haven't had too much luck selling silver on ebay, but have done well with currency. I usually get 88-90% of melt for US 90% silver coins. I can ship it to a refinery (Engle's) at 91%, I would be delighted to get melt. Silver is at $12.78 right now, according to Kitco. That means that melt value is 9.137 times face. I'd be delighted to get anywhere near 9x face right now, but I don't know where I can.

We'll see what happens with what I am selling right now. So far the average I've seen on ebay has been right around 8.75-9.25 per face $1. If I get anywhere in that range I am happy....

My experience is that you can get slightly better rates if you sell smaller amounts ($5, $10 or $20 face) but you end up paying a higher ebay commission. Depending on which selling options you choose, small quantities cost about 6-8% while larger quantities cosy 3.5-5% on ebay. After the ebay commissions, I can usually do about 1-3% better just selling directly to Engles in Indiana. This difference isn't much at all, so you should do whatever you are comfortable with. -Russell Kaye, Sellitstore

I would be very interested in your Burnham, PA note if it would be available for sale. Burnham is my home town, and the old bank building is right up the street from where I work. It is now an insurance agency. The notes are very scarce. I had a large and a small $10, but unfortunately had to sell them when I bought my house. I now live about a mile from Burnham.
I would be willing to pay a very good price for your Burnham $20. Please let me know. Thank you for your consideration. ~Jim

Jim M,
Right now I need to go through my notes and catalogue them. I also need to buy some literature and start figuring out what I have in regards to value. Once I get through all of this, I will post something here in the "sell" section to give the CCF members first dibs at anything I am selling. Unfortunately for most here, I can't really give deals or trades as these notes are not my sole property. However, fair market value pricing would be accepted. All I have right now in regards to those values are what Russell listed for me below.
I will send you an email when I list, or just keep checking the sell forum.
Oh, and I forgot my manners, welcome to the forum!!!!

Tights24, Thanks for the reply and the welcome. I understand completely that you can't sell yet. If and when you can, an e-mail would be greatly appreciated. I will be around on the forum as well. Thanks again. ~Jim
PS- Being a new member, I hope I didn't violate the rules by inquiring about the note. If I did, I sincerely apologize to everyone in advance.

Not a problem Jim. As for breaking the rules, I don't think you did anything wrong. New members are not allowed to sell or trade, but they are allowed to buy. This is mostly to get a feel for the person and to weed out the people that really don't belong on a family friendly forum like this. That being said, if I've interpreted the rules wrong, The Forum Mom or Dad or one of the moderators will be along to straighten both of us out. I don't think you can go wrong here if you just follow the rules that are posted here. I'll be in touch when I get things sorted out. Won't be for a month at least though as I am taking 3 weeks for my wedding at the end of the month.

Here are (were) my two Burnham $10s. Man, do I miss them! A down payment on a house sure can kill a collection for a while ~Jim
