If it smells like a brand new cheap shower curtain, then it almost certainly contains PVC plasticizers.

Ah well, I guess I won't be using these then. Only had some 2x2's in them for maybe 7-8 min, when I realized they smelled and could possibly have PVC, and so I took them out of the pages. Is that enough time to affect the coins in the 2x2's? I'm guessing not, but I want to know for sure.

I just took mine out of the pages I was using because they smell like PVC, and I was on wizard coin supply and they offer polyester. Are these OK to use?

@Jango: It takes a while for it to become a problem (months or years) - they're even OK for temporary storage as long as they don't get too hot or something.

@rachums: Polyester generally means PET, which is safe.

That's a relief. I was thinking that any PVC particles that rubbed onto my 2x2's would, after a few days, fester or something lol. Thanks for your answers guys. Now that I think about it, I may put some average pocket change coins (that aren't in 2x2's) into the slots, just to see how they look like several months down the road.

Rather that ever listening to stories of smells, tasting, bending, burning, etc. do as I did with Zip Lock Plastic bags. Look up the manufacturer's phone number. Call them and mention how you plan on putting food items in their products. So you were wondering what is the main materials their products are made from. Also, mention you are taping this conversation, as they always do to you.
You would find exactly what your items are made from regardless of stories about colors, smells, odors, fumes, etc.
When it comes to safety, remember taking info from anyone on the internet is risky. No one that tells you anything on the internet will compensate for any mistakes. Contact the manufacturer.

Do you even realize how ridiculous that sounds? We are talking about 2x2 pages, not food bags...

Brilliant Carl, let me know how that felony wiretapping conviction works out for you. "Informing" is not the same thing as "Consent" and your suggestion is illegal is some states(including Illinois).

These types of clear plastic pages are by far the most common that are seen at coin shows and used by dealers. Just make sure the 2x2 cardboard holder, which has Mylar clear window material, is properly sealed. Such clear pages are OK for temporary storage. Not a problem with turnover stock.

BTW, can other folks here in the CCF reccomend a non PVC clear plastic page for 2x2's, which can be used on a more permanent basis? What is their cost and who could supply them?

PVC is only a problem once the plasticizers break down, this process takes years. PVC is safe until this happens.

Obviously but it makes manufacturers attempt to tell the truth for safety sakes.

Oviously you never contacted any manufacturer. They ALMOST ALWAYS state this conversation may be recorded for clarity and/or safety or misscellaneous other reasons. YOU should try contacting some of them. Then tell them it is illlegal.

absolutely not. In almost every instance on this forum members attempt to give out true, honest, accurate information. Why do you always try to knock down anyone that attempts to be over caustious is beyond me.
I try to mention alternatives when in doubt since it is always a bit better to be safe than sorry.

We sell the equipment that performs call monitoring and recording.

In some states (mine included) only one party of the conversation has to be informed. That is, I can call you, record it, and you would never know.

In other states, both parties must be informed. That is, I would have to tell you that I am recording the call (which is what Carl is doing, making his call 50 states legal).

When you hear that "your call may be monitored..." most times the call is being recorded and not actively monitored. Your remaining online is consent; you were informed and you chose to stay on the phone. You can ask to not be recorded, but if they refuse, you hang up.

They are sturdy, but not too sturdy. They are also fairly cheap

By far the best binder pages are Cowans brand. I've used a ton of others and they do not compare.....not even close. You get what you pay for with these.

AAHHHHHh, so your one of the people responsible for me staying on a phone call to manufacturers for so long. Those automatic machines that say all sorts of stuff like your call may be monitored drives me nuts. Every year I try to call AT&T to renew my internet contract and sometimes on the phone for half an hour for that.
Thanks for that link to that law about phone taping. I'll print that out for future problems with that situation.
