I have three of these in two different dates that I bought many years ago because I thought they were neat. I scanned them,my second attempt at scanning coins, the other one is in medals and tokens forum. Any in put welcome like value and history on it. Just a note,it is in a quarter holder, that will give you an idea of size. Thanks to all.

John1 - Nice scans. It is hard to get detail on such a tiny item but you did well.

I never understood why Panama made such tiny coins. I can imagine that having a bunch of these in your pocket would lead to wholesale losses. Even if you drop it, you would be unlikely to hear it hit the floor. This is the size of the famous Panama Pill and even though there are very low mintages they are of limited value. Being copper-nickel clad copper there is no intrinsic value either.

There is a note in Krause indicating that three dates 1983, 1984 and 1985 are actually unauthorized issues. Read that "Counterfeit" and you can see why those three dates are actually worth more than the authorized originals.

It is the nature of counterfeit collectors like myself.

That said I do like these tiny coins. Of course I have never met a coin (especially a counterfeit) that I didn't like.
