I pulled this error coin out of a lot that I was looking through this weekend (at least I think it's an error): Image: Pesata5.jpg39.46 KB Image: Pesata6.jpg45.98 KB Since I don't collect errors and already have several of these I will give it to the first member with 50 posts or more that correctly idenifies the error type.

It's either off center or mis-aligned die. I don't have 50 posts, tho. But I have some of those old Franco pesetas.

It has to do with the numeral or letter with in the stars on the reverse which truley date the coin

I can see what appears to be rim Cuds and also the mis-aligned die on the reverse, also a small Cud above the N in ESPANA on the obverse. Steve

The small off center and rotated dies are not big enough to be considered errors. So whats the error?

I appologize, I thought some one would be able to guess the error from the images I provided. Off-strike is close (and a similar error type), but not quite right. Since I still want to give the coin to an error collector I'll post these two images of a similar non-error coin and give two clues: 1) The error coin has a larger diameter than regular-strike Pesetas. 2) There is almost no reeding on the edge. Is it struck on the wrong planchet? Steve

Good call laxmaster92! The coin is indeed a broadstruck error. E-mail me your adress and I'll send it off to you along with an Indian 5 Paise that appears to also be mis-stuck (although I think that it's probably a common error due to poor quality control at the Indian mint).

Well done Laxmaster92. I am not familiar with this terminology and it is not in the glossary. Can you tell me what broadstruck is? Thanks Steve

Broadstruck means that the coin was struck without a collar. The pressure of the die striking the coin makes the metal spread out.
