I might try a little distilled water soak but sugest not doing anything harsher to what is already a decent looking coin. I always got a kick out of the way the city chose to abbreviate its name. NIKOPOLITON is spelled out here ans is PROS (on the) but the name of the river only got one I (Istros). I might have shortened the Pros to make room for more of the last word but I was not asked back in 200 AD so they did it their way. ;) There are a lot of variations on this theme. The similar coin I have shows four stars with the crescent. There are people who have written theories on what the specific astronomical meaning was for each type but I am not convinced that it is more than showing Septimius has an interest in the stars.
