Today's submission is the 1936 Columbia, SC Sesquicentennial half-dollar in PCGS MS-66.

This coin is relatively easy to find in high mint state grades, though I've seen many high grade coins show splotchy, uneven toning and/or dull surfaces that are not very appealing (at least to my eye). The coin shown here has the clean surfaces and cartwheel luster that I look for in my coins.

The image of Justice on the obverse has always been an intriguing one -- note how Justice is not wearing the traditional blindfold. Isn't Justice supposed to be blind? Maybe she's shutting her eyes VERY tightly?! Just one of the many interesting stories that can be found within the US commemorative series...

The coin's design is the work of Abraham Wolfe Davidson. It was struck in all three mints -- Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco.

Enjoy!

Difficult to evaluate the strike quality from the photos commems ... but this appears to be another outstanding coin that fully meets as well my personal aesthetic for quality in the series.

I'm enjoying all your contributions ... they so far are tracking with my personal goals for the set ... and I salute your collecting efforts.

Very nice!

Love the coin.

Love the state (it is where I live).

Not a big fan of the city. I wonder why.
