oxos Valued Member United States 422 Posts	Posted 05/09/2012 6:05 pm After waiting more than a month to buy another coin (trying to be sympatico to Stevex's withdrawl from buying anything for a month ) I bought not only the Tiberius, but also a Julius Caesar fourrÃ©e. I've been working on collecting all 12 of the 'Twelve Caesars' in fourrÃ©e. I now have a Julius, Octavian, Tiberius, Galba, Vespasian, and Domitian. Now for the hard ones. This particular denarius (the real ones) go for big bucks, as most of Julius Caesar coins do. Beyond my budget, anyway. Plus, I've been looking for that Marc Antony galley coin. Well, it was a two'fer in this case. I know, I know, you can't even read ther reverse on the Marc Antony, so I have no idea what legion it is, but it is a Marc Anthony .... At least I can say I own one! Picked them both up for under a $100. I thought I did ok on the price, but I'll get your opinions on them. You won't hurt my feelings JW or Echizento if you think it was too much. I did wait a whole month to make a purchase though! Thanks for your opinions! Report this Post to the Staff

jessvc1 Pillar of the Community United States 2596 Posts	Posted 05/09/2012 6:48 pm I was Just reading about these type of coins and they think that many of these coins where made by the officials at the mints or maybe even actually ordered by the emperors to be minted in this way to possibly save money or be used in the conquered territories? The book that I read this was an old one and on one of those CD's with a bunch of books you can buy off of ebay so maybe it's way out of date. Report this Post to the Staff

My opinion on the legionary coins, though, is that you should be able to at least identify the legion. Keep your yes open. Another will pop up that will be identifiable and affordable. The JC coin is pretty nice, and you are correct when you say most JC coins are expensive. I own this same Denarius with a small break and I still paid about what you paid for your fouree. I also have been looking at the Gallienus Legion coins. They too, fetch a pretty high price in good shape. I think it was dougsmit who said Postumus and Septimius Severus also had legion numbers attached to some reverses. I still have to search them out. Report this Post to the Staff
