While not particually rare, coins of this short lived emperor don't show up very often. I have only been able to find two.

Quintillus- 270 AD
IMP CM AVR CL QVINTILLVS AVG
PROVIDENT AVG
RIC I, #28 Rome mint
listed as common.

We've had a discussion regarding rarity before, but, like you say, although not rare in the books, I too have found them hard to acquire. Especially at decent prices. I have two as well. One is holed and was my only Quintillus for years until I found my second a few months ago.

As a side note, is it me or do you see Lucifer in that image you posted?

Coins of Quintilus aren't rare but they are much scarcer in general than coins of Cladius II Gothicus for example. By this a mean that for every Quint. for sale there are probably dozens of CIIGs but the RIC scarcity is based on the quantity of examples found in the various museums etc. studied. Thus is a coin has several examples in each museum then it is common. Sometimes, depending on the RIC volume, a coin only seen in a single example can be rated Scarce or Rare but not higher than R1. Scarcity ratings in RIC are often meaningless unfortunately.

It is always nice to see a nice Quintillus though. Good catch.

If you have any go ahead and post them. I wonder if your first coin was nailed to something?

I've always imagined that it was. The shape of the hole makes me think of an ancient nail. Perhaps to a door-jam for some odd reason. Who knows. But I can let my imagination run wild, eh?

Maybe it was nailed for a church offering. I want to get one someday.

Quintillus

Quintillus AE Antoninianus. Mediolanum mint. IMP QVINTILLVS AVG, radiate, draped & cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / FIDES MILIT, Fides standing facing, head left, holding standard in either hand; S. RIC 52, Cohen 25.

This is my Quintillus coin. The coin looks way better in hand than it does from this scanner photo. I really tried to make it look better.

That's a nice OP coin and a decent flan with most of the obverse legend. Yes, it does have some wear but still is decent.
