Does anybody ever actually buy those copper rounds and bars that you can find in some PM dealer websites (for anything other than "gag gifts")? I can see the sense in selling scrapped copper wire to the local scrap dealer and I understand accumulating and selling copper pennies, but I don't really see the logic of buying and stacking copper in round and bar form the same way we stack gold, silver, platinum and palladium.

Not me, but I'msure there are some out there who do. Its a cheap investment, but chances of copper going through the roof are slim and it has never really been thought of as a precious Precious metal if you know what I mean :)
But thats just my opinion!

I personally do not stack copper. But if I ever would consider collecting it, I would start with my random daily change & wheat pennies etc. The rounds / bars etc I feel have an over valued premium most of the time but they do have some interesting designs.

I dont buy them either. The premiums on them are high and the price of copper would have to sky rocket to make money off them which is very unlikely. I do pull copper pennies when I roll search for my lincoln album or save one if I find it in change to sell on ebay but thats about it.

Does anyone buy copper bullion rounds as replicas of expensive or rare coins? Like, buying a copper round with a well-struck Standing Liberty design for $3.00 instead of ~$100 for a poorly-struck full head quarter?

I would rather accumulate scrap copper wire; it's pure. (no refining or assay costs) Quite often, I can recover it for free. Why bother spending investment money on copper, when it can be accumulated for no cost? Rather unglamorous, and certainly not numismatic.

I used to do exactly that when I was a teenager. I bought my first sovereign that way, with the proceeds.

THe only time I'd buy one is if it was to get a really nice coin design that the real one would be out of my budget.

Still not as pretty as a real gold one, but I might get one.
