jokersfb New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 04/04/2007 3:22 pm I know someone who has found what turned out to be a class 3 1804 silver dollar. It was found 8" underground with a metal detector. It was sent in for authentication and was returned with instructions to return it to the Federal Government. Any advice on this? I understand well the history of the coin. The normal grading services would not have advised turning it over to the government, and if it was sent to the SS or the Mint it would not have been returned if it was a fake. Is it possible that the instructions were not to return it to the Federal Government, but to send it to someone at the mint and/or Secret Service for identification? I was reading that this is what happened when grading services didn't want to certify a 1959-D Wheat Back Penny. And yes, pics would be great. Report this Post to the Staff
