I believe it to be RIC 57 Victorinus AE Antoninianus. Cologne mint, 269/270 AD. IMP C VICTORINVS P F AVG, radiate cuirassed bust right / PIETAS AVG, Pietas standing left sacrificing over altar.

Not a bad coin, far more 'silver' looking than most, decent detail too, even the best of these are not great if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the all the comments and help - the truth is it came as part of a job lot I bought mainly for the UK coins (you know tin of old coins etc) and I have no experience with Ancients (and to be honest the range of Ancients looks quite intimidating).

Out of interest what value do you think it has.

I have a similar coin I purchased in June of last year. With shipping I paid $16.50. I would add that I feel I got a pretty good deal. Mine is RIC 67:

Thanks Bing.

I think yours is more appealing (not knowing the scarcity of each), not a lot for something over 1700 years old then.

It is, but its also IMHO the most interesting and rewarding branch of coin collecting. Its also not as expensive as many think. Bite sized chunks is the way to go, hopefully you'll stick about, always good to see new people here

I just made it simple by collecting Roman Imperial coins, as many emperors as I can find. A year later and I'm also collecting other region coins. You collect and learn a little bit at a time, just like bobbyhelmet says.
