As mentioned on another thread earlier, I recently purchased this Gordian III AE26, Varbanov 726, struck at Anchialus, 238-244 AD:

OBV: AVT K M ANT GORDIANOC AVG CEB TPANKVLLINA, Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Gordian III right, facing diademed and draped bust of Tranquillina left
REV: OVLPIANWN AGCIALEWN Sarapis standing facing, head left, wearing kalathos, holding patera and cornucopia
12.44g, 26mm

Great coin! Would this be considered a commemorative or just regular issue?

Serapis sure looks like a woman here? I don't know who it is. What other options does Varbanov offer?

The only options are Homonoia or Hygieia; however, the figure on my coin appears to be wearing a modius

Thanks John. I couldn't pass it up. I got it along with another provincial which I will share in a separate thread. Doug does have a point. The figure on the reverse does look feminine. I wonder if the attribution is incorrect. Any thoughts?

It's the modius that has me confused.
