Has anyone ever notice that the 1889 10 cent has 2 different style 9s look at the heritage MS66 example http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...#48844884244 and then look at the PCGS examples http://www.pcgs.com/Pop/ValueView.aspx?s=31347
and here's a picture of mine.

Thoughts....
It's hard with this coin as there are few examples any comparisons would be helpful
Here is a cropped close up of the Heritage Auction piece

Nice find!
What happened to all the 1889 dimes?
How many were actually minted?
Of the 600,000 ten cent coins struck in 1889,how many were dated 1888?
How many were possibly melted?
How many reverse dies were used?
Will we ever know these facts about one of the rarest Canadian coins?

MS66 Based on the photos provided alone, the date part only, yours looks much better then the MS66 one. Just to be clear, the bottom photo is the one from Heritage. Is it just me, or does the date look worn. Collector67, can we sees the rest of your coin.
Also if I remember correctly, they said there was only one die pairing. So how would they have gotten two different 9's?

The Greene-Pittman-Belzberg MS63 on Heritage appears to be the same 9 as the MS66
http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...o=6373#Photo
Now what call these 9s
how does short tail closed 9 sound?

It is the same coin as the EF45.
Now the single die theory is out the window.
How about tall 9 and short 9?
