Nice find! What happened to all the 1889 dimes? How many were actually minted? Of the 600,000 ten cent coins struck in 1889,how many were dated 1888? How many were possibly melted? How many reverse dies were used? Will we ever know these facts about one of the rarest Canadian coins?

MS66  Based on the photos provided alone, the date part only, yours looks much better then the MS66 one. Just to be clear, the bottom photo is the one from Heritage. Is it just me, or does the date look worn. Collector67, can we sees the rest of your coin. Also if I remember correctly, they said there was only one die pairing. So how would they have gotten two different 9's?

yes the bottom is the heritage piece, weaker strike. It appears there is was more then 1 reverse die.

No... um maybe I just looked it might be mine but is now in a new holder AU50 the mark on the braid looks like it matches.

The 1889 ten cents is a real mystery coin of the Canadian series. This is a nice find listed on this thread .........good eye!

It is the same coin as the EF45. Now the single die theory is out the window. How about tall 9 and short 9?
