Surrey halfpenny token. Undated, this British "Conder" token was produced in the 1790's, a period when official copper coinage was inadequate for commerce.

Beautiful! For more than just the condition and design of the coin!

The figure in the mitre, behind the woolpack, is Bishop Blaze (St. Blaise), the patron saint of wool-combers, holding the instrument of his martyrdom, one of the iron combs with which his flesh was lacerated in 289 AD.

That token is in superb condition.

What inscription, if any, does it have around the edge?

There is nothing on either face to ascribe it to any particular merchant or trader from whom it could have been redeemed. At that time some unscrupulous people made generic tokens for circulation, with no intention of ever redeeming them for cash. It may be one of those.

Commercial Coins 1787-1804, Bell 1963, does not list this token. I am currently at work with just this book to hand. When I get access to my other references, I will see what I can find out.

Oops, switched obv and rev. Dalton & Hamer notes that these tokens exist on small and large flans (Mine is 30mm but I have no basis for comparison.)

In his book Specious tokens and those Struck for General Circulation, R.C. Bell suggests that this token may have been manufactured by Skidmore for sale to collectors by Denton or Prattent.

Thats a large flan you've got there. And I see some sense in that - I've never seen one worn down, but several which are in good nick. I know the other Guildford token (veeery rare) was minted only for collectors. I'm aware of 2, perhaps 3 (not a good photograph), examples.
