I have this listed for sale and a client of mine inquired as to how many of these were issued. I know there were a total of 106,800 1/2 oz timber wolf silver 1 dollars issued but I cannot find any information about the gold highlights. This has me worried that the coin was retouched after market. I have 2 of these. I know they are genuine because they have been weighed and electro tested.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your thinking is correct. The selective gold plating was NOT done at the RCM, it was done by another company after they purchased a quantity of the coins.

I really don't think anyone can tell you how many of these coins are out there. Almost anyone with a gold plating device can do it. You just have to have careful hands or a lot of practice.

But at the end of the day if he really likes the coin and the look, the after market touch up shouldn't matter that much to him.

Sorry that was for the full oz, my mistake. Maybe contact one of the German dealers on ebay . They may know the answer.
