Oh, and that's not good news about the Constantius coin. Doubt I'll be shelling out that kind of money for a coin. Might go with a similar laureate, draped, and cuirassed Constantius. Maybe even just a bronze. I'll get my friends drunk and they won't see the difference.

Heck, since they're not coinies, they wouldn't know the difference sober either ;)

Pish-- I'm thinking one coin, at least 2-3 bottles. One bottle to keep, the others to drink.

Pish, I have that bookmarked but so far have not identified the wine and I can't clearly see which Nero is on the label. If any of you can help with the ID, let me know.

It's not looking good for this collection though. Naturally, it looks like the coins on labels are high-end... much higher end than I want for such a whimsical set.

Here's another one, with a Syracuse tet. I do want a Syracuse tet at some point but I prefer an Agathokles to this type.

Pillar's wine bottle seems to illustrate a Demaretion decadrachm, not a tetradrachm, although I can't be absolutely certain without a closer look at the image... Be prepared to mortgage the house, the summer cottage, and sell the kids for scientific experimentation to get one of those in nice condition.

Well, I guess I'm out then. I have no children to sell.

Maybe I'll scale back and just try for one.

John, can you make out anything on that Nero wine and coin? And I'm trying to find a picture and info on that Constantius Chlorus just for fun. Not finding anything so far. If you come across a picture or info, please post it here :)

I think the photo was taken in Tuscany. There is a grape called Nero which doesn't help.

Yeah, the Nero d'Avola grape certainly interfered with my googling...

And John-- I found that Constantius Chlorus medallion. Beautiful! And utterly unavailable to me in every sense of the word. I would have to sell a thousand children and every spare body part

I suppose you could always send a message to the person who took the Nero photo?

Then you can sell Ben for the Chlorus.

No idea on the Nero. It looks like it might be an aureus, but I only see a bit of the image so I really have no idea.

I can't post links yet - I need 50 posts first - but if you google Arras Hoard Constantius Chlorus you should find a few links... One in particular is by Armstrong Economics, and he illustrates the plate image from Bastien's monograph on the Arras Hoard.

On a slightly different note, as far as I know Armstrong no longer collects, but a few years ago he had probably the most spectacular private collection of Roman coins in the world. His site on numismatics is worth looking at.

Best,
John
