These Trade dollars are more of a souvenir item. During the time specified you can use them as money in the community that is on the coin, but most people take them home as souvenirs. Many Communities issue a new one every year, and hundreds, if not thousands of communities do so every year. Two of the more popular Canadian Trade dollars are those from the Calgary Stampede, Edmonton Klondike Days, and the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest. On the Oktoberfest dollars they mint a small amount with a hidden mint mark (small beer stein) and these are highly sought after amongst the collectors of the series. Most Trade dollars end up in the junk boxes of dealers who sell them 2 or three for a dollar.
