Today I received two coins in the mail, one of which is now my sixth coin from the period of the "Uncertain Early Arsacid Kings" of Elymais (below). It is the nicest of the bunch and is the only one minted in billon as opposed to bronze.
The first century or so of Elymais, from c. 147 - 33 BCE, was ruled by the Kamnaskirid Dynasty. From around 25 BCE through the end of the kingdom in 228 AD, an Arsacid (Parthian) Dynasty ruled. We do not know the individual names of the earliest rulers of this period in Elymaean history, and so they are commonly referred to as the "uncertain early Arsacid kings."
Thanks, Ron. The legends are usually referred to as a "degraded" or "barbarized" Greek...but on this example at least the basileus/king is certainly readable at the top.
