Your coin is a minimus struck on a small flan from larger dies.

Here are two later nummi. The one on left is an AE4 of Arcadius struck from properly sized dies, and measures .70 gm and 10x10 mm.

the one on the right is reduced even from that. It is a monogrammed nummus of Marcian Leo I, which measures 7x9 mm from narrow to widest points, and weighs .46 gm.

Here are the two sides of the smaller piece:

Edit: I had originally misattributed the small nummus, which was standing in the tray next to some coins of Marcian I. It is a bit problematic inasmuch as this monogram has all the features for that of Leo I, but has an extra loop at the base of the first upright that I do not find listed anywhere. So even this "corrected" attribution is somewhat provisional.

I usually shy away from small coins because of my eyesight but I have a few. According to my data base I have several at 10mm of Theodosius II and Valentinian II. My smallest is an unattributed LRB at 8mm. I don't have pictures at the moment, I'll see about finding the coins an take some pictures when I have a little time.

Lrbguy, your coin is either RIC X 693 OR 694.
I will dig my Zeno monogram out and post it 2moro.

Thanks for looking tenbobbit. I looked in RIC X and I agree on RIC X 693. I have some doubt about 694 since I see no sign of a crossbar on right, but since most of that area is off the flan, who can say? The form of monogram is closer to that of the second of the three shown on page 293, with the downward sloping foot on the letter L.

I also looked in the Dumbarton Oaks catalog and DO 592 has the same form of monogram, and 598 has it on an example with the same size flan as mine.

I don't think you need to show the forms for Zeno since this monogram is not like any of those in RIC, DO, or the other examples in my collection.

Mine is 10 mm, I think.
Don't actually recall the size, but here's a "scale" photo on a British sixpence:

and the regular photos:

Leo I (there's, for once, actually enough legend to say LEO).
The monogram is a bit weird on the right side (so far as it can be seen on the blurry photos), so someone actually suspected it was Leontius (perhaps someone with a lot of catalogue images could figure it out).
