Looks like Environmental damage or a stain. Either one doesn't add any value. Worth 5 cents. Keep looking.

It isn't a stain it dips down and all the plating is gone.. so probably environmental

Acidic solution, soil maybe...notice the discoloration, dullness. I get that result when using 50/50vinegar & hydrogen peroxide to date-raise Buffalo nickles.
