Last week when I went to visit my 84 year old mother I showed her some old coins & Notes. She called 2 days latter and said see went through her mothers old pocket book and found these .The note is from her first husband that was in air force in ww2. Not sure what it is so I did a post on the foreign currency forum. https://goccf.com/t/30759The Morgan was given to me by my Grand father the only one left. My father sold all my other coins. I know its not much but it means a lot to me.

seeking:These will have to be pried from my dead cold hands.

The note appears to have Africa #200 and several names written on it. People in the armed forces would sometimes take a note from their wallet and have their friends sign the note for keepsakes. They are called short snorters. You can google this and also search ebay for examples. Usually I see them on a silver certificate but yours appears to be one also. You might want to check this out. Congats Rainman! This is great family history!

I hope that you are writing this information down somewhere and not just here. Most people will look at these and not think much about them but when you put the history behind them they mean a lot more.

A few months ago I was visiting my parents and talking to my dad about coin collecting. He left the room and came back soon after with a few coins he had. I looked through them and noticed a lot of common date wheat's, early nickels and dimes and then a really beat up Peace dollar. We started talking about them and the value. When we got to the Peace dollar I told him it was not worth that much because of the condition and that I could pick one up at any dealer from $15-20. He then told me it was worth a lot more and I asked him why. He told me it was one of the only things his father had given to him that had lasted this long. I really wanted to go out and buy a special holder for it but he beat me to it, and some day when that coin is mine it will be worth a lot more to me as well.

I still keep a 1988 silver eagle nearby because it was given to me by a realitive who was a great person in my life. Amazing how something like that could be priceless- it's great that memories can be worth more than Fed Script.

inherited coins or gifts from special people in your life are always worth more than "market price" !!....
And I agree with others....you should make some notations and keep them with the coins seperate.
