Hello all,

I recently acquired a massive amount of circulated coins, close to 10,000 total, from a guy that I work with. He was short on cash and was going to take them to a "coinstar" to cash them in. In total there were 8652 pennies, 412 nickels, 111 quarters, 342 dimes, 2 ikes, 2 susie b's, 23 rolls of pennies and couple mexican pesos. The math may have been a little off, but I gave him a check for $172.07.
As soon as I got these home, I began to search them. I gave ALL the pennies a "once over" and pulled the wheat cents. There were 91 wheaties and 23 Canadian pennies. I filled a Whitman Jeff. Nickel album 62 to 95, absent a 1978-d.
He had 1 plastic container filled with pennies, where none where dated over 1989. They look excellent! I finally own and can tell the difference between a small and large date '82 Lincoln Cent.
Anyhow, I've been constantly using my RedBook and the FORUM to insure that I am not overlooking any FINDS. I stumbled across a thread that contained the Lincoln Cent Resource site and I totally got my mind blown away.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to search these other that one by one with a flashlight. I'm open to anything.

Kinte

Well...get rid of the "flashlight" and go to Walmart and buy a good directional desk lamp....it'll put light right there where you need it !

Even if you don't do anything else....

Pull out anything from the 1950's and earlier that looks "new" or "shiny" or "wow". Even if you don't do anything else with them, put them in rolls until you know what to do with them.

Some people get into "variety" collecting or error collecting. To each their own. You really can't learn that overnight. If you think you might be into doing this, just start studying and put the rolls in the back of your closet for now!

I took 2 bags to a younger set of eyes and offered to split 50-50 by value any varieties or errors. And he sorted the rest by date/mm as he went. I was surprised by the number of minor errors he found so far ( takes a while to do 10,000 cents). he's happy, I'm happy, and my eyes are very happy.
