I love the loon dollar. Do you? I'll start this post for all things loonie. Gold, silver, nickel, steel, plated, what ever. Lets talk loonies. To start, I don't see a lot of loonie lovers out there. Don't be shy. . I know of a few so far, and I hope they come here. So, 1st question, do you collect loons? . I do. . "We are poor little lambs...who have lost our way...Baa...Baa...Baa"

I try to collect one for each year, but to be honest about it I sometimes forget for a couple three years than have to catch up. Are there any good varieties to search out?

Quote: Are there any good varieties to search out? I know a few, and I have had a lot of fun putting together these sets. More and more keep getting mentioned here, so lets see. Dorado, I have wanted the 2012 specimen for ages, have one in the set, but need one for my binder. To bad the old style is gone in specimen now. . This cheeses me, but we will hit that topic another night. Thanks for the reply's. .

Yes, I collect 'loonies', but I wouldn't say I love them. I AM quite happy with the "Bird Series" though. I find them all beautiful. I got the 2004 'Elusive Loon' in the mail today, which should complete (as of 2018) the set, but now I have to do some research. The "Bird Series" is supposed to be a run from the yearly specimen sets, but I had the Elusive Loon also in the specimen run. However, the paperwork that came with the coin today says it's a PROOF loon. I'll have to check my Charlton books before I do upstairs to bed.

This post is teaching me already. Atticguy, I always thought the Elusive Loon was Specimen as well. Nope, grabbed mine to look, and it is Proof for sure. I don't think they came in Specimen now. Good hit there. . My Charlton from 2016 has them listed as both. Pg 115/116 as Specimen, pg 125 as PR-67. Same mintage. Just an error in Charlton on the Specimen side because it's thought to be in the bird series, hence Specimen. Nope proof for sure, my Queen is frosty. Thanks. . Lets save the bird series for later. It may be a long one. Lets see who likes loons tonight.

This collection I just got back from ICCS. These are the complete 2009 mini stick / mini puck Loonies and weigh 6.50g and not the normal 7.0g.

This 2010 Loonie gets missed by many, its the nickle magnet one, the other most popular one is silver non mag.

I have a few that have made their way south of border. None of the special ones though. Perhaps some day.

Loon errors tend to be quite scarce...

Very nice SPP. I don't have any clipped loons, only a slight die rotation. I believe you when you say they are not found to often. Thanks for the reply.
