@spruett001 Ahh yes, a very large flea market would be kind of close to what Temple Market is. Temple Market has quite a few regular shops in it along with too many restaurants to count that set it a bit a part from a flea market though. Most of the dealers are there all the time as well such as all the coin dealers :)

@macmercury Thank you very much! My wife and I do plan on spending some time in Hong Kong to look around. May only be for a weekend though due to our work schedule and when family/friends are coming to visit. With the new high speed train connection opening, theres a good chance will be able to go there more than once since the price of getting there is going to be cut in half. Right now the high speed train is more expensive then flying since so many people are demanding tickets. Once the hype dies down the price is suppose to normalize. Were hoping it will.

Were also hoping to look at some sites outside of the city as well. The Hong Kong Reservoir is home to some pretty impressive columnar jointing, which is something we have always wanted to see.

Bought my first coin today down at Temple Market. Found a few more dealers than before as well. I"m actually finding more currency overall then coins and the people I saw buying were getting more currency then coins today. I plan on going back in a couple days since a dealer told me they had a couple of different dates in the copper 10 cash coins I like. Should be interesting to see if currency is as hot on the weekend as well.

The currency is mainly PRC, Rep China and a mix of circulated and uncirculated. I'm not seeing a lot of other currencies from around the world. I have only ran into one case with US currency for instance (they were common silver certificates)

I am going there again later today because I am on the hunt for another coin, ill take a couple pictures with my phone while I am there.

Took some pictures of some of the dealer cases, a couple of the heavy currency cases I was never able to get close to, but those cases have PMG certified Chinese notes. I ended up finding another coin there as well (the coin with the sun at the end of the pics)

Interesting EconBrony,

I be in the out skirts of Shanghai next month for a short stay, not sure I be in any places that has coin dealers around, but even then I don't collect old Chinese coins, except the Panda's. Do you know if the prices are compatible?

I have not checked the prices of Panda's or any of the bullion coins yet. My wife is interested in getting some so I will be finding out soon. If you meant the coin prices in general, the prices seem to change dealer to dealer quite a bit. I already have a favorite dealer I go to who is priced below what the coins go for on eBay by 20 to 40 percent. The dealer with the best inventory though is high on literally everything I look at. With that dealer it feels like he is just quoting me high because I am a Westerner, but for all I know, those coins could be going for more here. I am new to the market after all and just getting a feel for it. I have only been getting prices on coins I am interested in buying too since I have to ask for a price every time, so I am only getting a very small sample of prices thus far.

Occasionally I have been running into coins certified by Gongbo Coins that I can find literally no information on the coin on the internet. So gagging prices has been very hard on those. I wrote the info down for this particular coin so I may see if anyone here knows anything in the world coins section of the forums.

I am stopping by the coin stands weekly now-a-days and I am surprised how much the coins are turning over. Yesterday I stopped and looked at three different coins. All three were priced over 150 dollars. I came back today and all three were gone. This isn't the first time this has happened. The coins I took pictures of the week before to go home and do research on were gone the next time I was there too. Once you get over the 300 dollar mark, the turn over slows down it seems. Coins I have seen in those prices are sticking around longer. A few I had looked at were there for three weeks. A dealer I have been becoming friends with has coins that start at 300 dollars. His coins do not appear to move very fast. Most his coins are 1000 dollars and up. Very cool stuff.

Today I found out he teaches at the same university as me lol, small world. He teaches a class on coins for the summer semester every year. Its really cool that they teach numismatics at my university :)
