I purchased it in VT at an auction because it looked interesting. I haven't found anything on eBay or Google to help me figure out the value. Any help or info would be much appreciated.

Pretty sure it has something to do with a Pope.

Still looking..

Edit: Could be a patron saint metal. Googled the name on the obverse and this website popped up. I'll bet it's in there someplace. The site doesn't have a SEARCH function.

I'm at work. Could you please type out what the words are on the reverse?
I'm having a hard time making them out.

The obverse says PAVLVS FALCONIERI correct?

Sorry Ematt84. I researched and came up without a match.

A note: appears to be Italian.

It's Italian without a doubt.

I found a mention in 1891 book about the University of Brescia #936

https://books.google.com/books?id=k...ieri&f=false

Reverse: an eagle with lightening in its claws suspended over the city of Florence

Perhaps this will give someone else an idea as to who/what this medal commemorates/honors.

I followed some skeins of information to find the following:

The city in the background on the medal is Firenze which we know as Florence, Italy.

Paolo Falconieri was an intellectual and architect of the late Renaissance. A member of the court of Cosimo III de Medici (a VERY wealthy family). Among his many activities, he planned the expansion of Pitti Palace. This was the residence of the Medici family and to this day a famous site in Florence, Italy. It was donated to the Italian people by King Victor Emmanuel in the early 20th century and now serves as an immense museum that is itself a part of the exhibit.

Hope this is helpful.
