I'm a newbie/newcomer to numismatics and collecting coins, but I have been fascinated by the history of ancient coins and have started collecting!
I recently dropped into another major coin forum, but I was treated rather harshly as the new kid on the block. I was even banned after asking an attribution question. I won't get into any more details on this public forum, but I'd be glad to share the details with anyone in a private message. I figure that the problem is with the mods there, but since mods change frequently, there's no reason to disparage the entire site publicly, anyway.
As a beginner, my first instinct is to lurk until I have built up a wealth of knowledge to share. I know that some people don't like that, but some of us just don't like to speak up unless we really have something important or significant to say, and so please don't judge me by my post count like other sites.
But I'll try to contribute. In fact, I just helped someone with a question about writing on a Japanese coin.
I have about 15 books that I plan to read over the next few months (including the ancient coin collecting series by Sayles), and when I have finished reading all of them, I was thinking of providing a short 2-3 sentence review for each book to guide others. But that will probably be the extent of my contributions initially.
I won't ask a lot of questions either, maybe one a month, if even that many.
Anyway, since I was partially raised in Japan, I believe in firmly following rules, and so if I break any rules (inadvertently), please be so kind as to let me know!
