I got this in change not too long ago. The cashier noticed it and thought it was fake, I finally convinced her that even if it was fake I still wanted it.... and here it is. Could it be a ink issue? The OBV. is normal and the REV. is Orange. Any info would be helpful.

I have a 1963 $5 red seal note where the red ink is yellow. I was told by an old time dealer that the chemicals in the soap from the industrial uniform companies would do that to the red ink when the money was left in pockets. Maybe this is some kind of chemical reaction like that.

Done properly I believe bleach could do that to a note. Had a customer bring one just like it into the shop the other day.

I know the ink is supposed to be good in US currency, but if you leave a paper on the dash of a car for a while, it fades out on the exposed surface in much that way.

It is only a dollar! Keep it as a conversation piece; but if you do spend it, make it worthwhile! !

Not much you can do with a dollar that is worthwhile, except maybe tip a stripper, but I've heard rumors that they want $2 bills now.

Counterfeiters are now bleaching out $5 bills and reprinting hundreds over them...at first glance there is a presidential face watermark, the inner cord and it will pass the pen test. Don't know if they are doing it with $1? Just some interesting information.
