So I won a lot of nickels and dimes in an estate auction for an absolute steal. There were 29 nickels (28 Liberty, 1 shield) and 13 Barber dimes and I paid 60 bucks. There was no description of the nickels, so I think no one else noticed the 1885 sitting right there and the remarkably good quality 1883 Shield nickel. Anyway, would like some grading estimates.

I think the Shield is probably AU, but I'm not good enough to determine which one. I'm hoping the Liberty is G, but might be AG. The stars are visible on the front as is the ear hole, but the reverse is pretty cruddy. In either case, it's a steal of a buy!

UNC Details, or MS63 with conservation, and AG3

great pickup. the 2cent piece looks MS but there also appears to be something between AMERICA and CENTS on the reverse that was deliberately scratched or punched in. this will cause the details designation to be applied. still a nice piece

the 85 is the key date in the series so regardless of grade it has more value probably than what you paid for the lot. I think it has a shot at G details (ED) which is environmental damage

With the reverse as worn as it is, I would tend to lean toward AG3.

Would it be worth the price to get it conserved by PCGS? I've never tried that before and would probably go through my LCS.

Shield nickel: Unc. details

V nickel: AG details

On the V nickel, I think the pitting on the reverse is too severe to straight grade. Sounds like you got them for a steal!
Sets in progress... Mercury dimes, Washington quarters, 7070 Type Set, WLH Short Set
