I have this 1969 Canadian Dime and I do know that it is the small date variety. It is my understanding that in 1968 that the Philadelphia mint had minted some 1968 Canadian dimes and the reeds are distinctive from the Canadian reeds. This 1969 Canadian dime shows a distinct difference in the reeds as the fourth pic will show. In the fourth pic the top dime is that of a 1968 Canadian dime and the bottom dime is the 1969 Canadian dime in question. I believe this 1969 was minted in Philadelphia by what I am seeing with the reeds. My question is this, if it is from the Philadelphia mint is this 1969 Canadian dime a common coin?

Thank you silverwolf. I've only read about the 1968 minted at Philadelphia and nothing mentioned about this 1969 dime.

There were no 1969 Canadian 10cents minted in Philadelphia.

DBM, then what do I have? The reeds on the bottom coin are like this all the way around. How many reeds are on the coins minted in Philadelphia?

You have what we up here North of the border like to call "change".
There were no 1969 10cents struck in Philadelphia.
Regardless of reeding style your coin was struck in Ottawa.

One other question for my friends North of the border. Who attributes Canadian coins?

The first source I found says only 1968 coins were minted in Philly, no '69. I can't help with the reeding.

Have you compared it to any other 1969 dimes?

Didn't think so.

That would be your first step in the process.

My mistake I was looking at the information for 1968, not 1969. Sorry.

No dbm, I haven't. I actually only have these two coins and wish I had access to more specimens. DBM, you seem to have somewhat of an attitude with a couple of your previous comments. I am glad I am not a new member or I might be dissuaded from wanting to come to this site again. All I had was a question about a coin. Granted, I am not very knowledgeable about Canadian coinage although I have one with my name attached to it on Coins and Canada, it is the doubled 1979 Canadian penny. The editor had never seen one and I was glad to send it to him so he could update the site. Now since you seem to be extremely knowledgeable about coins from your Country, who do you know that attributes them?

Hi Jim0815, I would look at the 1968 more closely and first determine whether it was minted in Philly or Ottawa.
Without double checking myself I believe your top coin or 1968 was minted in Philly.
I have to agree with earlier comments there were no 1969 minted in Philly.

Cheers, Bill

Your title here does not ask if there is a 1969 Philadelphia dime, it states that you have one.

Who attributes Canadian coins?
There is no single accepted authority.
What is acceptable is as fleeting as the community of Canadian collectors.
