Hello everyone! I'm new here and I've held on to this note for about a year and half wondering if it's a rare find? Please help me out...is this worth more than $50? Thanks in advance.

The resolution of the note in question isn't that clear. Based on what I see, seems the note went through washing machine a few times and exposed to heat. I noticed the hologram is also partly damaged/missing. Or, it could be counterfeit if you cannot see the micro printing clearly on the note compared to the genuine one you have posed with it.

It doesn't appear to be a misprinted note from the Bank of Canada.

Don't have enough experience with Canadian notes to offer an opinion.

@John1, the note was most likely folded into quarters, like an accordion. Hence the large 5 and it's quarter section was washed out and the next quarter section of the 0 with part of Mackenzie's portrait looks normal in colour, and then the next quarter section is washed out.

The answer to the question is rather simple.

There is nothing in the printing process that will create this type of a situation even if the printing process was defective.

Therefore IMHO this is more than likely happened after the note has been printed.

I've seen this effect on stamps, it was something to do with ink not getting on the plate properly. Not sure about the polymer banknotes.

I would hold onto it for now, maybe try posting in a stamp forum.

Nobody would pay much for this kind of note unless it is graded, just send to BCS for about 20 bucks you would know for sure.

Here is a link describing the error. I imagine this would be similar, as it was short the red ink.
