Metal detecting can be not only fun but also very prosperous depending on the location you are searching . There are a lot of different detectors out there from $150 to $1,ooo plus . My advice is to start with one in the $300 price range and learn how to use it ,try your back yard , an old school field or a park .There are certain rules and regulations to follow when your using your machine .For instance ; your not allowed to search through any Government property . Have fun hunting and don't get discouraged if you keep digging up junk metal objects . Some of the more pricey machines will indicate what kind of metal is under your coil before you start digging . There is Gold Jewelry and Silver coins Just 2 - 8 inches down and your machine will tell you how far to dig . When you dig on a nice lawn make sure you don't dig like your digging a cesspool . Be neat and courteous to property owners , dig out a plug of grass and dirt ,locate your coin then put the grass plug right back in place .
Now get out there and have fun . Remember don't clean your Copper and Nickel coins . You will ruin them . Gold and Silver come out of the ground like the day they were dropped in .

There are diggers everywhere and clubs in many locations.

Before you hunt for treasure, hunt for a mentor.

Without digging with someone with experience there are a heck of a lot of metal detectors, regardless of cost, sitting lonely in a closet.

Believe it or not, even a $1,000 unit can fall short. Been there, done it. Review, review, review.
