One of my little sub-collections is stocks and bonds which have (or had) a face value of more than $1 million. Surprisingly few collectors are interested in high denomination material and most of them are in Europe. So every so often I will pick up a big ticket item for a good price.

I'll share a couple now and others when I have time. Here's a $14 million bond from the Chrysler Financial Corp.

Here is just shy of a million shares of West Coast Energy, so this certificate would have been worth just over $19.5 million on Sept. 3, 1997, at the closing bell.

Here are a couple others. A $1 million dollar bond from National Steel and a $2 million bond from American Airlines.

This one I've posted elsewhere. It's a specimen of a $14.5 million bond. Only one issued example exists and it's possible this specimen is also unique.

Here's a very similar specimen bond that sold this week on ebay for a bit more than I was willing to pay. Bet there's another interesting story behind it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/DE-Levin-T...047675.l2557

Another big bond arrived in my mailbox last week. This is similar to one I posted earlier -- and quite possibly unique. It's actually a specimen bond, but since only a single issued example exists (if it still does), this will have to do. The bond represents a $7.8 million loan that the New York Dormitory Authority got from the U.S. Housing & Home Finance Administration in 1959 -- hence only one bondholder. The funds were used to build housing at numerous teaching colleges across the state.

I added another stock certificate to the Million Dollar Collection this week. This represents 173,290 shares of Standard Motor Products (SMP is still around). The share price was around $12.50 when this was issued on Sept. 27, 1991, making this certificate worth around $2.16 million. It was sold eight months later for a loss of about $85,000.

These are all very interesting. I love the art on old stocks and bonds. Looking at these sparks my interest in them again.
