1917 *steel* Wheat Penny?

Hi there I just wanted to say I have a 1917 steel Wheat penny and it sticks to magnet.

Val777, if you too have one, that means your coin is plated as well! As others have said, in high school chemistry classes they did some "experiments" involving plating a penny with either silver or nickel (most often). It looks neat, but is only really damage. It makes for a good conversation piece.

True ALL steel pennies were only made in 1943 en masse, and a very few in 1944. If you have an *all* steel cent from any other dates, sorry, they are counterfeits.
