Hi all,

I collect world coins and currency, mostly. I'll look at raw US when there is any, but I usually lose!

It looks like I get to Whitman Baltimore for fairly low overhead, flight and hotel would be around $400. At my local monthly show, my upper limit is usually $200, maybe $300 if something is pretty special. If I'm going to travel to a big show, I'll definitely raise this, but I'm not going to have a budget in the thousands.

My question is: is it worth it for me to go? Away from the fact that all shows are variable (I might find everything I want for cheap or nothing at all). Just, in general, is it worth it for me, a fairly serious collector, to go and experience one of these large shows, and maybe find some good items?

Thanks for the thoughts

As someone who works for a dealer. Yes. As a collector. No. The 4 day show is worth it, but the turnout is always lower during the march show. For both dealers and collectors.

Spring show has a large group of both dealers and customers.
The summer show is rather weak.
The fall show is quite strong.

The best day to go is Friday.
Saturday is reasonable.
Sunday is weak.

The key is that this is a big show and has an associated auction, this year by Heritage I believe.
Although there are some lower end dealers, because of the table costs most bring their high end material.

Thanks for the opinions so far, and I hope more keep coming. I should say that I cannot make any of the other big shows for at least a year and a half. It's sort of this March Baltimore show or I just stay with my local show and ebay. I've done pretty well with those, if I can say so myself, so I'm wondering if it's time to experience the next level. But, it's not like recommending another big show will work because I already know I can't go (family or work reasons)
