I have collected a dozen older Chinese cash, and never had a problem finding examples in the Krause books. I also use the Chinese cash identification and price guide. but I have 2 coins that are eluding me. They are soldered to the inside of a foot wide , 5 inches deep bronze Chinese bowl. I don't really care about the coins, but they may help me determine the age of the bowl. It was purchased in CA about 22 years ago, and I believe it was probably brought here by Chinese hired for railroad labor. Please check the coins and bowl. Of the 4 characters on each coin, the bottom one is key. My own copy of coin 1 has a blank reverse, but in the bowl the reverse is now part of the bowl.

Not Chinese but Japanese coins appear to be embedded in your bowl. They appear to be from the mid-1800's.

All are Japanese.

First - Kanei Tsuho, if it's bigger than a US quarter, it's 4 mon, late 1700s. Can't tell for sure without the reverse

Second - Bunkyu Tsuho 4 mon, mid-1800s

Third - Old Kanei 1 mon, mid 1600s

I want to thank you both for the correct answers. As I said, I was not trying to date the coins, as much as figure when the bowl arrived in the U.S. Now I have gained more than that: I know from the latest date that the bowl (was made) had the coins inserted probably in the mid 1800's, and that the bowl is Japanese. Now I have more to go on. I feel a little foolish that I did not even try Japan or Korea . My mind was stuck on China. Thanks again. Bill.
